The best start for your start-up

When starting your own business, it can be tough to decipher what you need to sort out first. There are so many things to consider that branding can often fall by the wayside. A quick fix is often to buy a cheap logo or even have a crack at designing something yourself. However, this is usually a bad choice, and could be the beginning of the end before you’ve really even started!

Branding is an incredibly powerful tool. We’re constantly surrounded and bombarded by brands in our everyday lives, from fashion and beauty to food and entertainment. It can be used to start a revolution or convince a consumer to purchase one product over another, but it must be strategically considered. Although a quick fix is often the easiest option for start ups, a more considered approach will be far more beneficial in the long term. A cheap looking logo is not going to present your company in the right light, nor will it take into account all of the other facets which make up a company’s brand.

The fact is, there is so much more to consider; brand values, tone of voice, visual systems, and that’s just to name a few. Plus, all of these things must be completed after thorough research of the market and competitors to place you in the best position to succeed. This is incredibly important for a fledgling business, and something you simply can’t skimp on. Coming straight out with a poorly considered brand could get you started off on the wrong foot or, even worse, lead your business to never take off at all.

A brand is something that you ask your audience to buy in to and without this research phase, what basis does your brand have? It’s all very well and good to try and sell your product, but what consumers really want to know is the story behind it and to feel they can trust your business. A poorly planned brand can skip over these points, and leave you with something looking cheap, unconsidered, and ultimately unappealing over a more professional competitor.

Not only this, but good design can help a start-up secure investment. At such a critical early point, looking professional and being able to visually and concisely sell your brand to a potential backer can make a huge difference. It can truly influence the decision for whether your brand is worth putting money into or not.
