Websites that design themselves?

8th April 2015
You may have seen the Facebook and Twitter adverts from an organisation, or rather team of developers named ‘The Grid’.

They claim to have created a platform that use artificial intelligence (AI), meaning their sites will customise themselves?
This all sounds really interesting, imagine being able to push a website live without the need to design or code it. In fact the programme will analyse your content and create a site that suits it. Sounds impressive.

The Grid claims it’s not a web builder platform, but one thing’s for sure designers and developers like to be able customise their websites and don’t want to be restricted. So how will this thing be a success?

The Grid has collected over half a million pounds from users waiting to trial this product. These people have donated without even seeing a live demo so they’re seeing something I’m missing or are just really intrigued.
I must admit that I’m curious, just not curious enough to part with my cash on some marketing hype with no proof that this thing does what it says it does.

“The Grid Is The Website Of The Future: It Builds Itself”

Sounds pretty amazing, we best start looking for a new job!

Here’s an overview from the Grids website:

“This is not another do-it-yourself website builder. The Grid harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to take everything you throw at it – videos, images, text, urls and more – and automatically shape them into a custom website unique to you. As your needs grow, it evolves with you, effortlessly adapting to your needs. Want to add e-commerce? Social feeds? A different layout? The Grid just takes care of it. This is not a website builder. This is your personal AI web developer. Its first masterpiece is the website you’re looking at right now. Its next one could be yours.”
